GE credit for EAP Courses

EAP students must file a petition with the Honors Programs Office for courses, including those Pre-Approved, to be applied towards GE requirements.

Petitioning for GE credit

AFTER you are accepted to EAP, it is strongly recommended that you petition for GE credit PRIOR to departure:

  1. Review GE requirements and obtain syllabi/course description(s) of the courses you plan to take abroad.

  2. Pick up a blue petition (one for each course) from the Honors Programs Office in A311 Murphy Hall.

  3. Fill out the petition, identifying the EAP course and the specific GE requirement you hope it will satisfy.

Example: Apply Spanish Art History, to be taken on EAP Madrid, Spring 2009, towards GE/Foundations of Arts and Humanities/Visual and Performance Arts requirement.

  4. Submit petition(s), with syllabi/course description(s) attached, to the Honors Programs Office in A311 Murphy Hall.

  5. Allow at least 10 business days for review and processing of your petition(s). Then check your MyUCLA page (“petition” link) for the decision and follow-up instructions. Please be aware that not all petitions are approved.

  6. Approved petitions are "provisional," meaning they are not applied to GE requirements on your DPR until you have successfully completed the course(s) and Step 7 below.

  7. Once you have returned and your EAP courses and grades appear on your UCLA record, contact the Honors Programs Office (in person or via email) to have provisionally approved course(s) posted to the GE requirements on your DPR.

Petitioning While Abroad

You can also email the Honors Programs Office from abroad once you have the necessary course information and they can give you a provisional decision at that time.
