The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is a public university lacoated in Florianopolis in Southern Brazil. Florianopolis is an interesting composite of large and small islands and is known for its surfing. UFSC is a leading research university, particularly in the field of engineering. There are 11 schools with multiple departments. Thre are roughly 25,000 undergraduate and 9,000 graduate students. Officially becoming a university in only 1960, UFSC is relatively young but continually growing.
