Immerse yourself in Chinese language and culture this summer by examining the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Through classes at Shanghai Jiaotong University, you’ll focus on contemporary Chinese in a professional context and have the opportunity to practice the language through your fieldwork at the Expo. The program also looks at the cultural backdrop to the Expo through a course on the history of such large international cultural events. You’ll see the ways in which the 2010 Expo shines a light on China’s growing role on the world stage and bolsters the country’s nationalist movement. Students at all levels of Mandarin are welcome to apply.
