Explore the city of lights and cultural treasures of the French countryside through our intensive French language and culture program.  Besides visiting the Louvre, the Left Bank, and other great sites of Paris, you will discover unusual facets of France in weekly excursions outside the capital. In recent years, we have visited Honfleur, a picturesque fishing town in Normandy and birthplace of Impressionism, the chateau of Chantilly near Paris, Chartres and its famed cathedral, and the Renaissance chateaux of the Loire valley.

The program is designed for students of French, whose goal is speaking proficiency. This year we are offering again a curriculum in Communication, Culture, and Commerce where advanced students will learn business-related communication skills, study transactions, mentalities and customs, and gain an insight into the culture of commerce in France. Except for one GE course in the intermediate curriculum, all instruction will be in French and will draw upon the numerous cultural resources of Paris whenever possible. Highly motivated students anxious to discover this great world capital and acquaint themselves with its rich cultural heritage and people will benefit immensely from this opportunity to practice French beyond the confines of the classroom. This program is designed for mature students, 18-23 years of age, who can handle a brisk pace.

Scholarships:  To help cover the cost of the program, the Department of French and Francophone Studies may be able to offer limited scholarships based on merit and need. To qualify, you must be a UCLA French major or minor in good standing (a minimum of a B+ average in all French courses), and be able to demonstrate your financial needs.   The scholarship application includes a one-page personal statement demonstrating a solid commitment to French studies, a current DPR, and financial aid statement  Applications start April 1, 2008, and should be addressed to Professor Dufresne. Last year, the French Department was able to fund three scholarships of $1000 each.
