Q. Which programs have waitlists?

A. waitlists are available for any Travel Study program that has reached the maximum number of applicants. An updated list of waitlisted programs is available as a pop-up on the Travel Study home page.

Q. How do I apply for a waitlist?

A. Click on any link to the Travel Study online application and apply just as you would for an open program.

Q. How do I know where I am on the waitlist?

A. When you submit an application for a program with a waitlist, you will be notified automatically by e-mail of your waitlist number (in the subject message of the e-mail).  You will also be notified by e-mail if you move up on the waitlist or are accepted into the program.  You can check your waitlist status at any time by retrieving your application at www.ieo.ucla.edu/travelstudy/register/retrieve.cfm.

Q. Do I have to pay my nonrefundable $300 deposit to secure my place on a waitlist?

A. You do not have to pay the nonrefundable $300 deposit while you are on a waitlist for a program.  If you are accepted into a program, you will be notified immediately by e-mail with deposit and final payment instructions.

Q. What are my chances of being accepted into a program?

A. There is no sure way to determine your chances of being accepted into a program from the waitlist.  The higher up you are on a list, the better your odds, but there are no guarantees of your acceptance.

Q. By what date should I expect to hear if I've been accepted?

A.  As soon as you are accepted from the waitlist, you will receive an e-mail notification welcoming you to the program. Most waitlist applicants will be notified of their acceptance by late April.

Q. If I am accepted from the waiting list, how soon do I have to pay my non-refundable $300 deposit?

A. You will have 24 hours to pay your deposit to secure your spot. If you do not pay within 24 hours, your spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

Q. Can I enroll in an open program and hold a spot on a waitlist for another program?

A. No, if you are currently waitlisted in a program and switch into another open program, you will forfeit your spot on the program for which you are currently waitlisted.

Q. Can I still apply for financial aid if I am on the waitlist?

A. Only students who are accepted from the waitlist prior to the financial aid application deadline will be eligible for financial aid. For more information about financial aid deadlines, click here.

Q. What if I decide I no longer want to participate in a program I am waitlisted for?

A. If you know you will not be participating in a program you are on a waitlist for, please click here to retrieve and cancel your application.  Remember, there are many students besides you on the waitlist.  If you continue to hold a spot, you may prevent another student from being accepted into a program in a timely fashion.
