Dominic Thomas chairs the departments of French and Francophone Studies and Italian at UCLA and is a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee for the Inter-Departmental Program in Global Studies. In Spring 2005, Professor Thomas was the Lead Instructor for the first ever Global Studies course taught at UCLA. He also teaches courses in French, comparative literature, the Honors Program, European Studies, and Fiat Lux (for which he received a Faculty Recognition Award in 2005 and 2008). He is a specialist of sub-Saharan African literatures and cultures and of immigration in Europe. He has published "Nation-Building, Propaganda, and Literature in Francophone Africa" (Indiana University Press, 2002) and his "Black France: Colonialism, Immigration, and Transnationalism" (Indiana University Press, 2007).
