Look at the competing notions of development and modernization in Cairo, a centuries-old city with a dense population and complex history. The program will combine introductory seminars on Arab history, culture, and literature with guest lectures by local scholars, meetings and discussions with Egyptian university students, walking tours in Cairo, trips to other cities (including Alexandria), and visits to major museums and heritage sites. You’ll come to a better understanding of Arab identity in the modern world.
