Information on Coursework to Take Abroad for MIMG Majors/Minors
Although ALL units and grades from EAP courses transfer automatically to your UCLA transcript and count towards graduation, applying the courses to major, minor or school requirements requires department approval. In Microbiology,
- Majors can apply up to 15 units taken outside UCLA toward upper division requirements in the major.
- Majors and Minors may also apply courses towards language and GE requirements.
For specific questions regarding requirements and course transfers, contact your major adviser.
Advice from MIMG Department Advisers
- “Planning ahead is very important! Almost all MIMG courses are only offered ONCE a year. See the MIMG counselor at least a year before you plan to travel so that a realistic schedule can be worked out.”
- When looking for courses to transfer for the MIMG major, it is best to look for general topics (e.g., Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bacteriology) instead of more specific topics (e.g., Microbial Genomics, Viral Pathogenesis).”
- “Try to obtain a syllabus before you leave so that the department can determine if the course will transfer. You can contact the professor or the department offering the course to request the syllabus. Don't know how to find the professor's e-mail address? Google!”
- “It is to your benefit to take Life Science 3 here at UCLA. (LS 3 is an important foundation course for MIMG and is often taught by MIMG professors.)”
